To keep the amount of waste as low as possible, the cross-sectional area of the trunk is determined by a 360° measurement. For this purpose, 2D/3D profile sensors are aligned in the circumference. A 3D point cloud of the tree trunk is generated with the help of the recorded cross-sections. This allows the saw to be adjusted precisely in the subsequent process step so that optimal board production is achieved over the entire length, taking into account the cross-sectional surfaces.

In the steel industry, the so-called submerged arc welding process is used for material thicknesses of over six millimeters. In order to accurately guide the welding torch installed on a linear axis, the joint must be precisely measured. A special software module enables easy parameterization of the sensor and ensures constant determination of the tracking point – even with different types of joint.

The nails required for the process are conveyed with compressed air through plastic hoses and then shot into the wood.
