P3 Laser Distance Sensors Triangulation

Where complex shapes are measured, surfaces and colors of objects vary, maximum precision in the micrometer range and temperature-stable measured values are required, the triangulation laser distance sensors from the P3 series unleash their unrivaled performance – thanks, among other things, to the unique TripleA technology. CMOS sensors can be used for various applications at distances of up to 1,000 mm. The P3 sensors detect even small differences in height with reproducibility of up to 0.8 µm using a highly accurate triangulation process.

Comparison of P3 Series Designs

The P3 series is available in two different designs: the 3P design (P3PC) and the 3E design (P3EC). In contrast to the P3PC sensors, which have a working range from 30 mm to 660 mm, the P3EC distance sensors offer an extended working range from 150 mm to 1,000 mm. The P3EC sensors are therefore ideally suited for measuring tasks in a working range of up to 1,000 mm.

Innovative Functions for a Wide Range of Applications

Dynamic Jump Detection

Jump detection is one function of the P3 laser distance sensors. The changes in the measured value, i.e. the jumps, are evaluated rather than the absolute distances. Jump detection can be used as an edge counting method, e.g. when counting newspapers on a conveyor.

  • Stable detection of flat objects on uneven surfaces

  • Reliable spill counting thanks to detection of measured value jumps

  • Insensitive to misalignment due to slight change in distance

Thickness and Differential Measurement without Analysis Module

Laser triangulation sensors are arranged opposite each other for thickness measurement. The sensors use the triangulation method to detect the distance to the object and calculate the thickness of the measured object from both values.

  • Measurement results can be read directly on the display without an analysis module and programming in the control unit

  • Easy cabling and automatic configuration with optional connection cable

  • Contactless product thickness measurement

For differential measurement, laser distance sensors are arranged next to each other. A sensor measures the distance to a background, for example a conveyor belt, and another sensor measures to the object. The difference between the two measured values is calculated and output directly by the main sensor.

  • Precise height measurement even on uneven backgrounds

  • Contactless product height measurement

  • Measurement result can be read directly on the display

Intensity Evaluation for Part Control

The laser distance sensors evaluate not only the measured distance, but also the light intensity received from the object. This is how contrast differences are detected.

  • Easy part monitoring for height and color

  • Error monitoring for the highest product quality

  • Detection of transparent objects with constant background

Laser Expertise for Challenging Applications

High User-Friendliness and Intuitive Setting

On-Site Adjustment via App

The weCon app enables mobile parametrization and data transfer of the P3 distance sensors. Parametrization can be carried out easily via Bluetooth app. This function makes the process much easier, especially with sensors that are difficult to access or installed in large numbers, as it allows the individual sensors to be parameterized quickly.

Download the weCon app now free of charge from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Smart Operation

The P3 laser sensors are set via intuitive teach-in at the touch of a button.
This saves time during initial start-up. To teach in the CMOS sensors, the teach-in key is pressed for two or five seconds.

Display and Parametrization

The laser distance sensors from the P3 series are characterized by a simple operating concept with a clearly visible OLED display. The configuration of the parameters and the display of the distance value can be set and read out via the OLED display.

Protection and Flexible Installation

Hybrid Glass Protection of the Optics

  • Increases optics service life in harsh environments and in conditions with weld spatter

  • Quick and easy replacement in the event of wear

  • Increased protection thanks to replaceable hybrid glass (glass film)

  • Prevents scratching of the optics

  1. Thoroughly clean the sensor glass with a microfiber cloth or a special cleaning cloth to remove dust and fingerprints.

  2. When removing the old protective film, make sure that it is pulled off carefully at one corner.

  3. Place the new film on the glass, making sure that the film is straight.

  4. To avoid air bubbles, gently smooth out the film from the center.

  5. The film should be cleaned again with a microfiber cloth to ensure that it is clean and smooth.

Easy and Flexible Installation

  • Sensor housing with integrated M5 internal thread

  • M4 through bolts

  • 270° rotatable M12 plug for flexible connection

  • Flush installation possible

Robust Aluminum Housing for Harsh Environments

  • High stability and mechanical strength

  • Waterproof with IP67 degree of protection

  • Laser-engraved nameplate for durability and permanent readability
