weCat3D – The Technology

The 2D/3D profile sensors in the weCat3D series deliver millions of measuring points per second with micrometer-accurate resolution in Z. Available in two performance classes, measuring ranges from a few millimeters to over one meter are possible and output rates of several thousand hertz are achieved.

weCat3D MLSL

The weCat3D MLSL is distinguished by its minimal weight of just 300 g and a space-saving housing (90 x 36 x 64 mm). Up to 3.6 million measuring points per second, an output rate of up to 4,000 Hz, and highly precise resolution (up to 22 µm in measuring range X and up to 3.3 µm in working distance Z) deliver outstanding performance.

weCat3D MLWL

weCat3D MLWL impresses with globally unique performance indicators: Up to 12 million measuring points per second, an output rate of up to 6,000 Hz, measuring ranges between 30 and 1,300 mm and maximum resolutions (up to 17 µm in the measuring range X and up to 2.0 µm in the working distance Z) impressively demonstrate the breathtaking performance and precision of this product range.

Laser Triangulation –
How weCat3D Works

The 2D/3D profile sensors included in the weCat3D series work with the laser triangulation measuring method. A laser line is projected onto the object to be measured. The camera integrated into the sensor records this line via the triangulation angle. The sensor is thus capable of generating a precise height profile. Stringing these 2D profiles together makes it possible to generate a 3D point cloud.

weCat3D sensors are available with red or blue laser light in laser classes 1, 2M, 3R and 3B.

In addition to the 3D data, simultaneous acquisition of signal strength by weCat3D sensors permits the generation of high-contrast gray tone images. Amongst other things, these can be used for the detection of data matrix codes and barcodes or contamination on objects – without any additional hardware.
