In spring 2022, wenglor, the sensor technology expert from Tettnang, officially reached the impressive milestone of 1,000 employees within the company group. Brigitte Kassner started her new job at the site in Tettnang as a sensor technology development engineer in the development department, signing her employment contract as the thousandth member of the innovative family. The 28-year-old from Ravensburg can therefore look forward to an exciting and varied job, as well as to working with 999 other colleagues in over 26 countries worldwide. A historic milestone in the company’s almost 40-year history. “Healthy company growth can only be achieved by increasing the turnover, as well as the number of employees and the space required for this,” says wenglor Managing Director Fabian Baur. “Our turnover grew by 25 percent last year, our new development and production centers in Tettnang and Munich will be completed this year and we have now also reached the impressive milestone of 1,000 employees. The wenglor group is therefore growing very healthily and stands for sustainable growth as a strong employer in the region.” To mark the occasion, Brigitte Kassner was personally welcomed by wenglor’s management team, as well as Human Resources Manager Sarah Bauer and accepted into the innovative family as the newest member. “We are delighted that you have joined us as part of our wenglor family and wish you all the best for our future together.” At Home on Lake Constance, at Ease Around the World The 1,000 employees are spread across more than 26 countries worldwide. The largest number of wenglor’s employees, around 400 in total, are located at the company headquarters in Tettnang. This site is home to the administration, as well as parts of production and development. A further 340 wenglor colleagues work in production, development and sales in Sibiu (Hermannstadt, Romania). Around 60 employees work in the subsidiaries wenglorMEL and the recently acquired company TPL Vision, which develop and produce 3D image processing technologies, software and illumination. The remaining employees are distributed across 25 sales subsidiaries throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America. Growth in Employee Numbers Requires Strong HR Skills It is far from easy to find skilled workers in the current situation. wenglor is looking for additional support in almost all areas of the company to be able to meet the current demand for industrial sensor and image processing solutions. “It has become increasingly difficult to find employees in recent years. The wenglor LRL ring light is equipped with LEDs arranged in a circle that ensure uniform illumination intensity across the entire test object. With two sizes and three light colors, it is suitable for a wide range of applications and camera requirements in industrial image processing. Tettnang / Berlin – With the acquisition of software developer deevio, the wenglor sensoric group, based in Tettnang, Germany, is gaining greater know-how in artificial intelligence (AI) and data science while also creating new opportunities for future innovations in the field of machine vision. Based in Berlin, deevio GmbH was spun off from the Viessmann Group’s incubator wattx. deevio will remain in existence after it is integrated into the wenglor sensoric group, with Christian Vollrath, Head of Computer Vision, taking over management in the future. “We are delighted that, with the acquisition of deevio GmbH, we have this opportunity to further strengthen our expertise and capability in the field of machine vision,” stresses wenglor Managing Director Rafael Baur. “In recent years, deevio has developed a great deal of know-how in using AI and data science for image processing applications within the automation industry, which is a considerable advantage for us.” The Berlin-based software developer specializes in the automation of visual inspection processes in production. Combining AI, software and hardware, the image processing systems developed by deevio are used as solutions for complex production applications. Artificial intelligence can be used, among other things, to automate manual quality controls that cannot be solved with rule-based image processing. These solutions are already being used in many different areas of production within the automotive, packaging, and pharmaceutical industries. Just a few weeks ago, wenglor caused quite a sensation in the industrial image processing sector with the release of its B60 series. The B60 smart camera is a comprehensive solution for challenging image processing applications. “Our B60-series smart cameras with wenglor uniVision 3, wenglor’s integrated high-performance software ecosystem, have expanded the machine vision horizon in our industry,” says Christian Vollrath, who is Head of Computer Vision at wenglor and now taking over management of deevio as General Manager. “The course is clearly set for further innovations in AI and image processing. While adjustment can be carried out simply on the device, initial startup is quick and tool-free. The latest generation of laser sensors, which operate on the principle of transit time measurement, impresses with its high user-friendliness and intuitive operation. The new fiber-optic amplifiers in the P1XD series are also impressive: With their compact format and outstanding flexibility, which enables easy integration into various applications. With the modular principle, fiber-optic amplifiers can be easily combined with plastic and glass fiber-optic cables as well as various sensor heads, guaranteeing high adaptability. Different functional principles such as reflex, through-beam and retro-reflex modes make the P1XD series of fiber-optic amplifiers the ideal choice for demanding tasks. In the field of machine vision, the product portfolio has recently been expanded with new machine vision controllers and industrial cameras with additional high-performance hardware. The integrated powerful uniVision 3 software is particularly impressive as an ecosystem for operating all wenglor hardware. It is flexibly scalable and evaluates all images and 2D/3D profiles of the weCat3D series in one system. Thanks to numerous high-performance modules such as HALCON Script, as well as robot and RTE interfaces, uniVision 3 as software can be used individually and even expanded. The integration of state-of-the-art deep learning technology for reading plain text ensures an extremely high detection rate with minimal configuration effort. These and other features can be experienced in the Software Corner. A robot cell also provides exciting insights into the capabilities of the MLZL 2D/3D profile sensor. 1D Code
A 1D code, also known as barcode or one-dimensional code, is a code whose optical aquisition is made in an unidimensional way.

2D Code
A 2D code, also known as a two-dimensional code, consists of a pattern of dark and light elements (bars, rectangles and squares with corresponding spaces in between) which are arranged in a 2D fashion. 2D codes have a more complex layout than 1D codes, and the technology required for acquiring and deciphering them is more complex as well as the scanner must always read the entire pattern depicted by the barcode in order to acquire and decipher 2D codes, and not just a horizontal line as is the case with 1D Codes. Two-dimensional codes contain more diverse information than one-dimensional codes, for example information for the identification of products, texts such as addresses, and delivery note numbers. In general, we differentiate within the 2D codes between the stacked codes (stacked code) and the matrix codes (DataMatrix code).

2D Code Scanner
A 2D code scanner is a scanner which operates according to the principle of an image processing system. It is equipped with a CCD or a CMOS element plus an integrated illumination and scans (scanning) a defined surface area depending on the selected scanning range. Thus, it is capable of reading 1D and 2D codes omnidirectionally.

3-A SSI
3-A SSI is an organization which sets standards in the field of food and beverages in close cooperation with the FDA. It is comparable with the EHEDG in Europe. Components in closed processes (e. g. piping) can be certified by 3-A SSI. Certified components bear the 3-A logo. Components in open processes (e. g. conveyor belts) cannot be certified.

3-Stage Enabling Switch
3-stage enabling switches (enabling switch), in comparison to 2-stage enabling switches, have the advantage of always ensuring safe shutdown in emergency situations regardless of individual user operation (release or pressing – in the event of a cramp). 3D Tracking
3D tracking is the sum of rotary tracking or translatory tracking plus auto-focus. Objects are tracked with regard to the X and Y positions and are reliably detected by auto-focus at various working distances.

6-Band Multispectral Sensor
In a 6-bank multispectral sensor, the spectrum of visible light is broken down into six ranges including red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet (ROYGBV color space). This makes it possible to detect extremely fine color nuances thanks to spectral measurement.

Absolute Pressure
Absolute pressure is pressure relative to zero pressure in an empty space (vacuum). Example: Atmospheric pressure (ambient pressure / air pressure) has an absolute value of approximately 1 bar and a relative value of 0 bar.

Absorption is a process in which the radiant energy of a light beam passing through a medium is partly or fully converted into another form of energy, e.g. heat.
