When manufacturing care products, labels must be applied to the packaging at high speed. Before application, the labels are fed to products on transparent carrier materials. An ultrasonic fork sensor detects whether the labels have been correctly positioned on the carrier foil. These labels can be different colors, dark, transparent, printed and very thin. Between 120 and 160 labels are recorded per minute. This ensures that labels are applied quickly and without error.

Colorful, glossy or transparent films are used in packaging plants to ensure that products are airtight and securely packed. These are conveyed by rolls and attached around the objects. Ultrasonic distance sensors monitor the roll diameter to ensure continuous material flow. Two independent switching outputs signal when there is little film left on the roll and when the roll is empty and needs to be replaced. In addition, the sensor checks whether the film is open or torn.

In the furniture industry, wood or plastic is processed in panels. Before processes such as sawing, they are temporarily stored in an automated buffer storage facility. Ultrasonic sensors are installed between the narrow conveyor rollers to detect the presence and end positions of the panels in the storage racks. In a compact 1K housing, the sensor detects objects precisely from close proximity even in dusty environments and with irregular surfaces, thus preventing multiple storage of panels. The sensors can be parameterized and process data read out via IO-Link before installation.

To reliably replenish the supply of screws, rivets or bolts in vibratory bowl feeders, the fill level must be constantly monitored. The vibration of the container separates the objects down a spiral chute and transports them away which depletes the supply in the feeder. The fill level is monitored by an ultrasonic distance sensor with IO-Link. This sensor delivers two digital switch signals regardless of the material. The switching points are set via IO-Link.
