In order to achieve constant slice thicknesses and the highest possible yield, the product is measured before cutting. Several 2D/3D profile sensors are used for this, which enable seamless 360-degree measurement to capture the shape from all sides. Thanks to their stainless steel housing with protection class IP69K, the sensors are very robust and resistant to regular cleaning and disinfection processes.

Presence Check of Nonwoven Fabric on the Bottom of Coffee Capsules with Contrast Sensors
In order for hot water in coffee machines to be pressed evenly through the coffee capsules and thus ensure a uniform taste, the capsules must each have a white, wafer-thin nonwoven fabric at the bottom and at the top opening. Contrast sensors are installed above the multi-lane conveyor belt to check the presence of the lower nonwoven fabric before the filling process. Quality Control of Automotive Fuses via 2D/3D Profile Sensors
After manual production and installation of fuses and on-board power supplies for passenger cars, the correct cable assignment, as well as the correct arrangement and insertion depth of the fuses, are monitored in testing machines. The latter is made possible by the use of a 2D/3D profile sensor, which measures the entire block via laser triangulation with micrometer precision. In the automotive industry, various types of bodywork components must be reliably detected and their position accurately determined during final assembly. Different surface shapes, degrees of gloss or colors must be recognized at the defined scanning points. Guidance of Ultrasonic Probes on Welded Seams with Smart 2D/3D Profile Sensors
After the submerged-arc welding process, the spiral welds on steel tubes must be examined with ultrasonic probes. A smart 2D/3D profile sensor is installed above the ultrasonic probe to enable precise guidance into the center of the tubes. This profile sensor creates a 2D height profile via laser triangulation, which is evaluated directly in the sensor housing with the configurable standard uniVision software. The combination of software and intelligent hardware ensures continuous control of the probes.

Weld Seam Tracking in Robot Cells via 2D/3D Profile Sensors
In fully automatic robot welding cells, it is necessary to determine the exact position of joints before the welding process. For this purpose, a 2D/3D profile sensor is mounted directly in front of the welding torch on the robot. The special design created especially for the application is particularly compact in order to minimize the occurrence of interference contours on the welding torch. The sensor now detects the joint via laser triangulation. The tracking point is determined via uniVision software and sent to the control system. A web correction is now carried out using this information and the weld seam is placed.

Edge Measurement of Click Parquet via 2D/3D Profile Sensor
During the production of click parquet, the boards’ quality in terms of geometry has to be assured continuously during operation. The better the edges of the boards match, the higher the quality of the parquet. However, the milling tools used for this wear out over time, leading to scrap. In order to reduce scrap, the edges of the parquet boards are measured with two 2D/3D profile sensors accurate to the exact micrometer directly after the milling process. Via the control unit, the 2D profile data collected using laser triangulation is then processed, visualized and evaluated by software.

Monitoring of Cooling Circuits in the Mold Casting Process with Pressure Sensors
The cooling of molds during the casting process, for example of engine blocks, is a key criterion for obtaining a finely solidified casting product through a constant cooling speed of the melt. For the water cooling of the individual cast iron mold sectors, several separated cooling circuits are needed. Pressure sensors installed front-flush in the narrowest of spaces measure both pressure and temperature in each return line simultaneously – with high accuracy via IO-Link. The high thermal conductivity of cast iron and the solidification of the objects can therefore be controlled precisely.

3D Profile Measurement of Round Timber via 2D/3D Profile Sensors
After the trunks are delivered to sawmills, they are guided to the cutting line. To keep the amount of waste as low as possible, the cross-sectional area of the trunk is determined by a 360° measurement. For this purpose, 2D/3D profile sensors are aligned in the circumference. A 3D point cloud of the tree trunk is generated with the help of the recorded cross-sections. This allows the saw to be adjusted precisely in the subsequent process step so that optimal board production is achieved over the entire length, taking into account the cross-sectional surfaces.

Weld Seam Tracking in Submerged Arc Welding Systems via 2D/3D Profile Sensors
In the steel industry, the so-called submerged arc welding process is used for material thicknesses of over six millimeters. In order to accurately guide the welding torch installed on a linear axis, the joint must be precisely measured. A 2D/3D profile sensor with cooling module and protective screen installed in front of the welding head determines the contour of the joint with micrometer precision, even at high temperatures. A special software module enables easy parameterization of the sensor and ensures constant determination of the tracking point – even with different types of joint.

Detection of Security Labels on Packages via Gloss Sensors
In the pharmaceutical industry, security labels are used to seal packaging units in a tamper-proof manner. When packaging pharmaceutical products, it is essential to check whether the safety labels are correctly applied to the packaging. A gloss sensor mounted next to the conveyor track reliably detects the presence of labels based on the difference in gloss between the matt packaging and the glossy label. This ensures that the packaging is not opened and is protected against unauthorized refilling.

To ensure a high quality standard, it is necessary to check that the labels have been correctly applied to the corresponding cans.
