1D Code
A 1D code, also known as barcode or one-dimensional code, is a code whose optical aquisition is made in an unidimensional way.

2D Code
A 2D code, also known as a two-dimensional code, consists of a pattern of dark and light elements (bars, rectangles and squares with corresponding spaces in between) which are arranged in a 2D fashion. 2D codes have a more complex layout than 1D codes, and the technology required for acquiring and deciphering them is more complex as well as the scanner must always read the entire pattern depicted by the barcode in order to acquire and decipher 2D codes, and not just a horizontal line as is the case with 1D Codes. Two-dimensional codes contain more diverse information than one-dimensional codes, for example information for the identification of products, texts such as addresses, and delivery note numbers. In general, we differentiate within the 2D codes between the stacked codes (stacked code) and the matrix codes (DataMatrix code).

2D Code Scanner
A 2D code scanner is a scanner which operates according to the principle of an image processing system. It is equipped with a CCD or a CMOS element plus an integrated illumination and scans (scanning) a defined surface area depending on the selected scanning range. Thus, it is capable of reading 1D and 2D codes omnidirectionally.

Alphanumeric Code
An alphanumeric code is a series of numbers, letters, symbols and punctuation which is used to encode product information and characteristics. The order in which numbers, letters etc. appear has a pre-established significance. This sort of encoding is possible with certain types of barcodes.

Bidirectional Code
A bidirectional code is a barcode which can be read in either direction. This is usually the case when different start characters (start character) and stop characters (stop character) are used.

Cable Designation
The cable designation indicates the cable sheath material and the core insulation material; the respective materials are separated by a slash, e. g. PUR/PVC.

Code 2/5 3 Bar Matrix
Code 2/5 3 bar matrix, also called code 2/5 matrix, is a purely numeric barcode (numerals 0 through 9) which represents each individual character through the use of five elements (three bars and 2 spaces (space)). This barcode is a discrete 1D code (discrete barcode). The advantage of high information density is offset by minimal tolerance.

Code 2/5 5 Bar Industrial
Code 2/5 5 bar industrial, also called industry barcode, is a numeric barcode (numeric characters 0 through 9) which consists of two wide bars and three narrow bars. The spaces (space) used in this 1D code do not contain any information. For this reason, the 1D code demonstrates a large printing error tolerance (15%), and can thus be printed with very simple printing technologies (tolerance). The disadvantages of this barcode include minimal information density (numeric data only) and a space requirement of approximately 4.2 mm per character (with a module width of 0.3 mm and a wide-to-narrow ratio of 1:3). Beyond this, no standard is available for the code.

Code 2/5 Interleaved
Code 2/5 interleaved is a numeric barcode (numeric characters 0 through 9) consisting of two wide and three narrow bars and spaces (space), resulting in the designation “2/5”. The term “interleaved” refers to the overlapping representation of the characters. The code always consists of an even number of characters and can be read bidirectionally. The interleaved 2 of 5 code demonstrates high information density. The disadvantages of this barcode include a small number of usable characters and a tight tolerance, which results from the fact that the spaces also contain information.

Code EAN-128 UPC Shipping Container
Code EAN-128 UPC Shipping Container is a purely numeric variant of Code128 with a fixed length of 19 characters. In addition to the standard modulus 103 check digit, it also includes a modulus 10 check digit.

Code Reliability
Code reliability describes the possibility of incorrect interpretation during scanning and evaluation of the code. Most barcodes include a self-test function, meaning the number of barcode symbols (barcode symbol) per encoded character is checked. The number of symbols (e. g. bars and spaces (space)) is the same for each encoded character included in the barcode. The use of a check digit which is appended to the information characters allows for the recognition of substitution errors. Some barcode types require the use of a check digit.
