Stack Height Detection of Roof Tiles with Long-Range Laser Distance Sensors

After production, fired and coated clay tiles are temporarily stored in magazines for cooling and drying. They are then removed and fed to quality control before the packaging plant. Long-range laser distance sensors are mounted above the magazines in order to reliably detect the minimum and maximum fill levels of the tile stacks for controlling entry and removal from large distances of several meters. The roof tiles are reliably detected despite their different tinting, gloss or matt surface structure.

Long-range laser distance sensors work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The emitted light can be switched off for these sensors, which eliminates temperature drift.
