Mixed Packaging Palletizing Using 3D Sensors

For mixed carton boards, a large number of SCUs (single container units) need to be assembled in a stable, volume-optimized and effective way. A 3D sensor records the dimensions, position and orientation of the cartons at the infeed regardless of color or printing. A second system monitors the structure of the target pallet and detects changes in the stack. The high-resolution 3D data enables the robot controller to place the pallets precisely, avoid collisions and ensure a stable pallet setup.

3D Sensors

3D sensors perform three-dimensional completeness, dimensional accuracy and surface checks. They enable the control of robots, for example in pick and place or bin picking applications. 3D sensors project structured light patterns that are recorded and digitized as 3D point clouds using a camera. See the point cloud quality for yourself.
