Sensors for Harsh Industry

Thanks to their particularly robust housing design, the sensors for the HeavyDuty range are not sensitive to shocks and impacts and are therefore particularly suitable for use in harsh industrial areas such as machine tool or plant engineering.
They are also resistant to aggressive coolants and lubricants. Thanks to a high degree of protection of at least IP67/IP68, the sensors can also be installed in wet environments.

Photoelectronic sensors use light to detect or count objects contactlessly and to measure distances using light. The high-quality 2K miniature design in stainless steel 316L (1.4404/V4A) is available as a reflex sensor with background suppression, energetic reflex sensor, through-beam sensor, universal retro-reflex sensor and retro-reflex sensor for transparent objects. Depending on the intended use, different types of light, such as blue light, red light or red laser light, are available.

The photoelectronic sensors in 2K format are part of the PNG//smart family. They have an aligned optical axis and offer smart communication via IO-Link and condition monitoring.

Position Sensing of Material on Lathes

In CNC lathes, raw material is fixed in clamping devices. A side-mounted reflex sensor with background suppression detects the workpiece precisely with laser light in order to check its correct position. The robust stainless steel 316L housing is resistant to aggressive coolants, lubricants or metal shavings.

Long-Range Laser Distance Sensors P2PY

  • Corrosion-resistant housing made of stainless steel 316L (1.4404/V4A)
  • Resistant to oils, coolants and lubricants
  • High mechanical stability and resistance against shocks and impacts
  • High chemical material resistance

Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight with wintec are powerful transit time sensors that work with a red laser. This means that they cover large working ranges and detect objects safely and reliably even from a large distance.

The latest wintec generation with DS technology delivers precise results up to 10 meters and sets itself apart in particular by the fact that it reliably detects objects regardless of their color or surface condition, such as gloss – even in extreme inclined positions.

Presence Check of Annealing Steel Pipes

In the steel industry, red-hot tubes are transported for cooling on conveyor lines after being manufactured in casting furnaces. The side-mounted sensor in the robust stainless steel 316L housing detects the 700 to 1,000 °C hot blanks from a safe distance from the front edge. It withstands high temperatures and also switches reliably in the event of interfering factors such as extraneous light, steam or heat shimmer.

Distance Measurement of Chipboard

In the wood industry, chipboard is deposited and removed by fully automatic vacuum grippers in stack storage systems for interim storage. The sensor installed on the gripper detects the distance of the gripper to the board and enables slow approaching and starting of the gripping process. Interference such as ambient light or dust as well as reflective or fluorescent objects do not influence the switching behavior.

Fluid sensors detect parameters such as pressure, flow, temperature or level in liquid or gaseous media. weFlux² flow sensors in the stainless steel 316L housing measure the flow velocity of aqueous liquids at up to 400 cm/s and the medium temperature in the range of –25 to +150 °C.

weFlux² flow sensors use a specially developed calorimetric measuring principle in which the measuring probe is heated and the flow is measured using the heat dissipated through the flowing medium. This also enables the temperature to be determined at the same time, thus reducing costs and mounting space otherwise required for temperature sensors.

Flow Sensors in Use – Measurement in the Medium

Detection of Leaks on Machine Tools

In machine tools, coolants and lubricants are fed into the machining chamber sealed with mechanical seals. Regular wear and tear can cause leaks. Flow sensors measure the flow velocity of the medium in the leakage line and, if the flow velocity is too high, emit an alarm signal to replace the seal.
