Energy Efficiency

Optimization measures in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, compressed air generation and building insulation ensure increased energy efficiency. In order to further reduce CO₂ emissions, wenglor is continuously expanding its energy efficiency measures, the use of renewable energies and process optimization.

Power Generation

Sustainable procurement and generation of energy is an important aspect for gradually reducing CO₂ emissions. We at wenglor rely on a combination of various measures to implement a sustainable energy concept. One important component is the generation of electricity by our photovoltaic systems. We have also implemented a combined heat and power plant to generate additional energy. The means that our energy requirements can be partially met and the environmental impact reduced.

Heating and Cooling

Heating and cooling in wenglor’s buildings is largely achieved using geothermal energy. This environmentally friendly method allows us to generate heat and cold efficiently and reduce our environmental footprint. To ensure the comfort and productivity of our employees, ventilation systems with highly efficient heat recovery are installed in the office and production areas. Some of these units have humidification and dehumidification functions to create a comfortable indoor climate.

CO₂ Neutrality

Electricity, heat and cooling for wenglor’s buildings is largely generated by geothermal energy, photovoltaics and a combined heat and power plant. wenglor also strives to continuously expand its energy efficiency measures in order to further reduce the company’s CO₂ footprint and at the same time improve energy efficiency.

Photovoltaic Systems

Using solar energy, we can cover part of our own energy requirements with renewable energies and at the same time contribute to the energy transition. The installation of photovoltaic systems on wenglor buildings in Tettnang and Unterschleißheim, as well as on our company building in Sibiu, is an important step in this direction. Our future projects include planning solar panels on other wenglor buildings.

Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP)

The CHP is designed so that the electricity generated is used entirely for operating the heat pumps. The heat generated during operation of the CHP is used for our high-temperature consumers, such as radiators and hot water production. We also rely on intelligent heat recovery. This allows us to use the generated heat efficiently and further reduce energy consumption.

Geothermal Energy

The heating and cooling of wenglor’s buildings is largely generated using geothermal energy. Geothermal energy uses the natural thermal energy from the ground to heat or cool buildings. In heating mode, the heat pumps extract heat from the geothermal field and transfer it to the building’s heating system. This means that the building can be heated efficiently even with low outside temperatures. In cooling mode, the process is reversed: The heat pumps extract the heat from the building and release it to the geothermal field, which cools the building.

Building in Unterschleißheim

The company building in Unterschleißheim, which opened in June 2023, relies on modern technologies and intelligent concepts to create a sustainable and resource-saving work and production environment. Energy-efficient building design, automatic temperature control and regulation in production and offices, and the use of renewable energy for electricity, heating and cooling all play a key role.

SMD Machine

The SMD machine (surface mounted device) is used for assembling PCBs. The production line ensures that raw materials are used efficiently and that production waste is reduced by inline test systems that respond immediately to quality problems in assembly. This improves the longevity of the products and thus increases resource efficiency.

Automatic Storage System for SMD Materials (Dry Tower)

The automatic storage system for SMD materials is used to optimize internal material supply and material-specific storage. All storage and retrieval processes are order-related and automated by the storage system. Expiring materials are indicated by the line monitor and provided in good time by the storage system. This leads to an increase in process reliability and quality.

In conjunction with the new storage system and the use of the latest technologies, not only is the pure process reliability and quality increased, but the personnel capacity requirement for material handling is also reduced, thus speeding up the production process significantly.

Digitization of the Ordering Process

By implementing the new SAP transaction and introducing an approval strategy, orders are generated and approved automatically. Thanks to this system-supported process in SAP, more than 60,000 DIN A4 sheets can be saved each year. This not only saves paper, but also wood, water and energy. Manual activities are reduced, making the process more efficient while ensuring traceability.

“Paperless Production” Project

As part of the “Paperless Production” project, we are striving to digitize all work instructions by setting up screens at all work and packaging stations. This allows us to provide information in real time and ensures that the latest versions of the work instructions are always available. It also reduces potential scrap production, reworking and customer complaints by providing clear and visual guidance. Digital recording also enables better traceability of the work carried out and relieves the burden on the environment, as the need for paper is significantly reduced.

Products

wenglor products are durable, resource-conserving, energy-efficient and distinguish themselves through their high quality. Our sensors feature intelligent shut-off devices and reduced current consumption to help us and our customers reduce energy consumption and save precious resources. They also help to prevent negative impacts on the environment.

Packaging

In order to minimize plastic waste, wenglor has set itself the goal of shipping products in environmentally friendly packaging with reusable materials. The material must not only be sustainable, but the volume and weight of the packaging should also be reduced.

foundersClub Company Restaurant

Seasonal, fresh and balanced – sustainability also plays a major role in the company restaurant foundersClub. wenglor chef Rick provides a healthy and sustainable range of food. wenglor employees can choose between a meat dish and a vegetarian alternative, or use the salad bar. 

The required quantity is already calculated when planning the menu to avoid food waste. Any leftover food is not disposed of, but integrated into the salad bar or dish on the next day or stored in the cold store until it is reused.
