EAN128

EAN128 is a logistics code for commercial applications (see also: EAN) which, to a great extent, corresponds to Code128. However, it utilizes a start character which represents a combination of start A, start B or start C, and the FNC1 character, i.e. a double start character. The code sequence can include up to 48 characters and may contain various data types, for example article number, date of manufacture, weight, product variant, serial number, recipient’s postal code etc. Each of the possible data types is preceded by a data identifier (2 to 4 digit number). Individual data content units may have either a fixed length (e. g. EAN numbers) or a variable length (e. g. serial numbers). All data content units of variable length must be preceded by a guard bar. Each data content unit may include its own check digit (e. g. EAN numbers), which is one of the information characters (information character).
