Depalletization of Boxes on Pallets Using 3D Sensors
In large logistics centers, pallets loaded with boxes must be unloaded – i.e. depalletized – in order to be transported on subsequent conveyor belts. This task is performed by fully automated robot systems. The exact position of the objects on the pallets must be recorded so that they can securely grip objects of different sizes. A 3D sensor is attached above the pallet for this purpose, which performs a precise position measurement using structured light. This enables a shifted load to be detected regardless of the size, shape or packing pattern of the load.
3D Sensors
3D sensors perform three-dimensional completeness, dimensional accuracy and surface checks. They enable the control of robots, for example in pick and place or bin picking applications. 3D sensors project structured light patterns that are recorded and digitized as 3D point clouds using a camera.
