Calming section
What is a calming section?
The calming section is a part of a pipeline in which the medium can recover from vortexes and swirls. In a medium that passes through a pipe, vortexes form whenever the geometry of the pipe changes. This occurs at places such as branches, pipe bends and transitions to a different pipe cross-section. Accurate measurement is not possible within these vortexes. In order to be able to measure accurately, the sensor must be mounted after the calming section.
As a general rule: Length of the calming section = at least 5 × pipe diameter
