Collision Protection in High-Bay Shuttles with Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

In automated high-bay warehouses, several shuttles are used simultaneously on defined routes to store and remove materials. In order to prevent collisions between the transport robots driving on the same route, the autonomous vehicles must orient themselves within the space. For this purpose, laser distance sensors Time of Flight are installed on the front and rear of the vehicle housing, which proactively detect objects at great distances. The switching signals are evaluated in the control system so that the vehicles are braked in good time and collisions are prevented.

Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
