Sensors in Hygienic Design

The sensors for hygienic applications are ideal for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Thanks to the high-quality stainless steel 316L housing, they are robust and corrosion-resistant.
Thanks to the high IP69K protection, the sensors can be integrated into and on systems where they can withstand high-pressure cleaning at up to 100 bar and water temperatures of up to 80 °C. They are ECOLAB-certified and can withstand aggressive cleaning agents. Hygienically designed housings with no edges, crevices or angles where debris could build up make the sensors suitable for use in hygienically sensitive areas. They are also FDA compliant through the use of food-safe materials.

Photoelectronic sensors can detect or count objects contactlessly using light. The high-quality hygienic housing in stainless steel 316L (1.4404/V4A) is characterized by its special hygienic design without dirt edges and hermetic seal. The sensor functions in accordance with the principle of time-of-flight measurement with laser class 1. The wintec, equipped with dynamic sensitivity technology (DS), enables a previously unattainable reception sensitivity even with very weak signals.

Hygienically Designed Sensors in Use – Clean Outside, Intelligent Inside

Detection of Transparent Injection Solution Bags

In the pharmaceutical industry, injection solutions are filled into bags by the manufacturer and later transferred into vials. A ToF laser distance sensor in a hygienic stainless steel housing reliably detects the transparent bags and controls the handling robot, ensuring a continuous flow of material. Thanks to its hygienic design, the sensor remains clean and free of contaminants and bacteria. With FDA-compliant materials and ECOLAB certification, it is suitable for demanding environments in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Level Measurement in Meat Grinders

In the food industry, the fill level in meat grinders must be reliably measured despite changing products, moisture, and cleaning cycles. A ToF laser distance sensor in a stainless steel housing is installed vertically above the feed hopper and performs a non-contact measurement of the fill level during feeding. This ensures a continuous supply of material, prevents empty runs and dry running of the meat grinder, and guarantees consistent utilization of the system. Thanks to its IP69K degree of protection and hygienic housing design, the sensor withstands high-pressure and foaming agent cleaning without any loss of function.

Ultrasonic sensors evaluate the sound reflected off the object.  They can detect almost any object and are especially well suited for monitoring fill levels of liquids and bulk goods and for detecting transparent objects regardless of the material, state, color or transparency.

The high-grade stainless steel housing (1.4404) in hygienic design makes the sensor well-suited for applications in demanding hygienic areas. The sensors can be used as reflex sensors, as well as ultrasonic through-beam barriers.

Full-Metal Ultrasonic Sensors – Insensitive and Versatile

Detection of Food on Conveyor Belts

When packaging foods such as ham, cheese, fish or bacon, the objects portioned into slices are transported on conveyor belts and first wrapped in paper. To ensure that the paper is placed at the right moment, an ultrasonic sensor must first reliably detect the incoming food despite different colors, shapes and surfaces.

Fill-Level Measurement in Mincers

Mincers are used in industrial production and portioning of minced meat. The fill level of the minced meat must be monitored to enable continuous filling. For this purpose, an ultrasonic distance sensor in a stainless steel housing (degree of protection IP69K) is installed above the feed container. Thanks to its hygienic design, the sensor withstands even intensive cleaning under high pressure, at high temperatures of up to 80 °C and with aggressive cleaning agents.
