Position Monitoring of Car Body Parts with Long-Range Laser Distance Sensors

In automotive shell construction, body parts such as doors, tailgates or fenders are welded by robots. To ensure that the parts for the welding process are correctly positioned, long-range laser distance sensors with wintec check their exact position in the welding device. The sensor’s robust stainless steel 316L housing is resistant to welding spatter or sparks. The optical lens has a special coating and is therefore also very resistant. If it wears, it can be replaced with a new lens without having to replace the entire sensor.

Long-Range Laser Distance Sensors

Long-range laser distance sensors work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The emitted light can be switched off for these sensors, which eliminates temperature drift.
