In the automotive industry, sheet metal parts are taken from a stock by a robot gripper and fed to the welding robot. Several sheets can stick together due to adherent oil, wedging of the sheets or magnetic charge. To ensure that only one sheet is gripped per assembly process, two laser distance sensors triangulation are mounted at opposite positions. The sensors measure the distance to the sheet and then calculate the sheet thickness via a difference calculation. If this result is greater than that of an individual sheet, a signal is output.

Presence Check of Seals with Laser Distance Sensors Triangulation
When assembling drive systems in the automotive industry, seals are inserted before a cover is mounted on the drive. The laser distance sensors triangulation with integrated intensity evaluation record both the distance and the received intensity between the sensor and seal. The measured distance is used to check whether only a single seal is present. The thin white seal on the glossy cap is detected by the drive system based on the intensity. The measuring function guarantees reliable part control.

Differential Measurement for Rubber Tracks via Laser Distance Sensors Triangulation
In the manufacture of passenger car tires, individual rubber tracks are overlapped in order to meet various requirements at different points in the tire. These overlaps are detected during operation at high speeds by two laser distance sensors triangulation using differential measurement. Reliable measurement is possible even on dark, light-absorbing surfaces. The sensors can be connected to each other via Plug&Play via the smart ZC4G004 connection cable. Without an additional analysis module, the sensors calculate the differential value independently and output it via the analog output and via IO-Link. Setup is easy via Bluetooth and the measurement results can be read directly on the display.

Copy Counting for Printed Products via Jump Detection with Triangulation Laser Distance Sensors
In the printing industry, newspapers and magazines are conveyed on conveyor belts in what is known as a shingle stream, i.e. overlapping. The copies must be counted so that the downstream packaging unit can process the exact quantity. Since they lie on top of each other and vary in thickness, detection must take place independently of the absolute distance to the sensor. A triangulation laser sensor mounted above the conveyor belt reliably detects the units thanks to the integrated jump detection function. In this operating mode, the sensor reacts to measured value jumps on the folds.

Double Layer Control of Coffee Capsules Before Filling by Laser Distance Sensors Triangulation
When producing capsules for coffee machines, it must be ensured that only one capsule at a time is inserted into the trays of the multi-lane conveyor belt during filling. For this purpose, one precise laser distance sensor triangulation is used per track, which recognizes whether one or more capsules are positioned on top of each other. Eight sensors simultaneously check the eight tracks of the conveyor belt. Due to their material independence, CMOS sensors reliably switch to capsules of a wide range of colors – even on metallic, shiny capsules.

High-density fibreboards (HDF boards) with a thickness of just a few millimeters are used in furniture production. These are transported on conveyor belts and fed to the various processing steps. A laser distance sensor triangulation is mounted above the conveyor line to detect the thin boards precisely and position them. Thanks to the integrated jump detection, the sensors reliably detect the boards even if the conveyor belt is uneven. This ensures that the boards are precisely positioned and can be fed to the next processing step.
