Precise Angle Measurement in Brake Presses

Modern die presses offer a variety of tools to make bending processes faster, safer and more accurate. To ensure exact bending angles, precise monitoring is required throughout the entire bending process.

High Integration Level, Angular Accuracy and Precision: The MLSL for Brake Presses

To ensure the correct angle for each bending process, it is advisable to use the optical in-line angle measurement. During the bending process, the angle is measured on all surfaces and at every position, regardless of the die and tool combination used. Triangulation sensors such as the MLSL123S50 measure metal parts to the exact second, reliably detect angles on different surfaces, provide relevant angle information, and are seamlessly integrated in common control manufacturer software. The MLSL123S50 can be used for a wide range of bending applications without retooling thanks to its compact and lightweight format and large measuring range.
* With the MLSL123S50, measurement is possible from a leg length > 10 mm.

  • Fully integrated with the systems of the most common control manufacturers

Optical Measurement During Bending Processes

Precision Control and Integration for Exact Results

In bending operations, a range of variables affect the accuracy of angles. These factors include different batches in sheet metal production as well as different bending directions for the rolling direction, slightly varying sheet thicknesses and the variety of possible materials. In order to ensure repeatable bending angles, the angles are monitored in-line by optical measurement. The MLSL123S50 allows for accurate angle determination after pre-bending and checking after over-bending. Thanks to integration directly into the control system, the specifications are not determined by the material, but by the workpiece dimensions and can be readjusted immediately for each bending process.

Consistent Results in Bending

Optical angle measurement can be used for all combinations of upper tools (dies), as the sensor is directed at the sheet during measurement from below. By entering the assembly position with height, distance and angle to the Y axis of the press brake, the desired angles can be achieved extremely reliably, regardless of the condition and degree of soiling of the dies. Optical in-line measurement not only ensures consistency in production, but also keeps the quality of the manufactured components at the highest level and significantly simplifies the operation of the bending machine.

Efficient Bending Monitoring and Easy Setup

Monitoring of Bending Steps

The sensors can be moved along the length of the press in their defined assembly position in order to monitor the various work steps and bending processes. Especially for long components, the sensors can move to different positions and control the angles over the entire length. Alternatively, four or more sensors can be used to speed up measurement and increase throughput. This enables efficient monitoring and ensures optimized production speed. The connection between the sensor and the control system is established via an Ethernet connection. This ensures seamless communication between the sensor and the controller.

Automatic Adaptation to Matrices and Sheet Geometries

The integrated evaluation software enables uninterrupted work, as the application on the sensor can be adapted to the relevant job by the PLC. The setup of the job on the controller takes over the adjustment of the measurement for different dies, sheets and angles in the background.

Precision Through Collaboration

The MLSL123S50 is fully integrated into the systems of the following controller manufacturers, so that by activating the “angle measurement” option in the relevant controller, the sensor is fully integrated and ready for use immediately.
