For this purpose, an inductive sensor with full-metal housing is installed directly on the dispenser, which detects the seals. Thanks to the hygienic stainless steel 316L and the high IP69K degree of protection, the sensor is resistant to high pressure and cleaning agents, making it ideal for the beverage industry.

In order to be able to precisely apply rubber seals for car doors, the position of the doors must be measured exactly in car body construction. For this purpose, three 2D/3D profile sensors per cell are installed on robots, which measure the doors supplied via overhead conveyor with micrometer precision. Thanks to the precise position determination, the doors can be precisely gripped and the seals positioned. Another profile sensor then checks the position of the seal.

Mincers are used in industrial production and portioning of minced meat. The fill level of the minced meat must be monitored to enable continuous filling. For this purpose, an ultrasonic distance sensor in a stainless steel housing (degree of protection IP69K) is installed above the feed container. If the level falls below the minimum fill level of the container, automatic feed of the mass is triggered. Thanks to its hygienic design, the sensor withstands even intensive cleaning under high pressure, at high temperatures of up to 80 °C and with aggressive cleaning agents.

Frozen pizzas are produced and the toppings added in highly automated production facilities. Spices such as oregano are sprinkled on top of the pizzas after the toppings have been added. The spice mixture is located in an open container directly above the conveyor belt. An ultrasonic distance sensor in a hygienic stainless steel housing monitors the container to detect the exact fill level at all times so the container can be refilled in good time. The level can be continuously monitored thanks to the analog output.

When packaging foods such as ham, cheese, fish or bacon, the objects portioned into slices are transported on conveyor belts and first wrapped in paper. To ensure that the paper is placed at the right moment, an ultrasonic sensor must first reliably detect the incoming food despite different colors, shapes and surfaces. The sensor in the hygienic stainless steel housing is mounted above the conveyor line. Thanks to IP69K protection, high-pressure cleaning (up to 100 bar) at a water temperature of 80 °C and with aggressive cleaning agents is possible.

Automatic return machines have a central, circular opening for receiving containers. In order to link with subsequent processes (e.g. belt start-up, deposit logo check), a multi-beam retro-reflex sensor for transparent objects is located directly behind the drop-in. This ensures that beverage packaging made of PET, glass, aluminum or sheet metal is reliably detected. Thanks to the four red light beams, even small containers without blind spots are detected. In logistics centers, shipping boxes are transported to the packaging station via a conveyor line. It must be ensured that no residual particles are present in the boxes. For this purpose, a 2D/3D profile sensor is installed above the conveyor belt, which checks the passing boxes for content. The data is evaluated using the uniVision image processing software. If residual particles are detected, the crate is sorted out. The sensor detects residual particles regardless of the color.

In special machine construction, workpiece carriers run through various processes in one system. RFID readers are installed at several points in the system so that the workpiece carriers are reliably detected and identified at each station. Before processing and filling large bottles, the bottles must be fitted with holders. For this purpose, the holders are fed into a metal rail after singulation and then mounted on the bottle neck. To reliably detect the presence of the holders on the metal rail, a reflex light barrier is used and taught in on the static machine part. As soon as the light beam is interrupted, the sensor reliably recognizes the holders despite the presence of openings and regardless of the color and shape.

Plastic injection-molded parts are produced in large quantities. Before they are packed, the plastic parts must be separated and fed to the packaging station via a conveyor rail. A reflex light barrier is taught in on the metal conveyor rail and then detects the presence of a plastic part. A flap is then opened, causing the object to fall into the packaging. The reflex light barrier detects objects regardless of their surface. This ensures that there is a plastic part in each package.

1D Code
A 1D code, also known as barcode or one-dimensional code, is a code whose optical aquisition is made in an unidimensional way.

A 1D/2D scanner is a scanner that can read and process both 1D codes (1D code) and 2D codes (2D code).

2D Code
A 2D code, also known as a two-dimensional code, consists of a pattern of dark and light elements (bars, rectangles and squares with corresponding spaces in between) which are arranged in a 2D fashion. 2D codes have a more complex layout than 1D codes, and the technology required for acquiring and deciphering them is more complex as well as the scanner must always read the entire pattern depicted by the barcode in order to acquire and decipher 2D codes, and not just a horizontal line as is the case with 1D Codes. Two-dimensional codes contain more diverse information than one-dimensional codes, for example information for the identification of products, texts such as addresses, and delivery note numbers. In general, we differentiate within the 2D codes between the stacked codes (stacked code) and the matrix codes (DataMatrix code).

2D Code Scanner
A 2D code scanner is a scanner which operates according to the principle of an image processing system. It is equipped with a CCD or a CMOS element plus an integrated illumination and scans (scanning) a defined surface area depending on the selected scanning range. Thus, it is capable of reading 1D and 2D codes omnidirectionally.

3-A SSI
3-A SSI is an organization which sets standards in the field of food and beverages in close cooperation with the FDA. It is comparable with the EHEDG in Europe. Components in closed processes (e. g. piping) can be certified by 3-A SSI. Certified components bear the 3-A logo. Components in open processes (e. g. conveyor belts) cannot be certified.

3-Stage Enabling Switch
3-stage enabling switches (enabling switch), in comparison to 2-stage enabling switches, have the advantage of always ensuring safe shutdown in emergency situations regardless of individual user operation (release or pressing – in the event of a cramp). Mode of operation of a 3-stage enabling switch:

3D Tracking
3D tracking is the sum of rotary tracking or translatory tracking plus auto-focus. Objects are tracked with regard to the X and Y positions and are reliably detected by auto-focus at various working distances.

6-Band Multispectral Sensor
In a 6-bank multispectral sensor, the spectrum of visible light is broken down into six ranges including red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet (ROYGBV color space). This makes it possible to detect extremely fine color nuances thanks to spectral measurement.

Absolute Pressure
Absolute pressure is pressure relative to zero pressure in an empty space (vacuum). Example: Atmospheric pressure (ambient pressure / air pressure) has an absolute value of approximately 1 bar and a relative value of 0 bar.

Absorption
Absorption is a process in which the radiant energy of a light beam passing through a medium is partly or fully converted into another form of energy, e.g. heat.
