Scanner Performance Right Down the Line
wenglor Presents New Barcode Line Scanners Precision in the first dimension: wenglor’s new barcode line scanner sets new standards in the reading of one-dimensional codes. Thanks to the increased scanning area, the stationary scanner can be used even more flexibly – at manual workstations and in fully automated systems. With the integrated CCD line, the BLN series barcode line scanner sets itself apart in particular with its high reading performance. The large scanning area is 20 to 200 mm or 30 to 520 mm depending on the model, which greatly increases flexibility in system design and installation. The compact design (29 x 60 x 52 mm) also enables installation in tight spaces such as complex intralogistics facilities. The BLN scanner reliably reads 1D codes with a very high density of over 0.075 mm in static and dynamic applications of up to 0.3 m/s with a scan rate of 510 scans/s. The decoded information is sent directly to the system via an integrated Ethernet or RS-232 interface. Visible red light helps to ensure that the code is optimally aligned in the scanning area when used in manual workstations. The successful decoding is then output directly to the operator via a green “Good Read” LED, the practical OLED display shows the information stored in the code. In addition to the easy operating concept requiring no additional software, the smart sensor impresses with its robust housing design with IP67 degree of protection, which also makes it suitable for use in harsh industrial environments. The highlights at a glance Large scanning area from 20 to 200 mm or 30 to 520 mm Compact design for installation in space-restricted systems Ethernet and RS-232 interface Visible red light for easy alignment Green “Good Read” LED and OLED display to show the reading status

More Performance, Intuitive Operation, More Variety
In mid-September, wenglor sensoric released 19 new models of the C5PC series of 1D/2D code scanners, once again expanding its portfolio with more powerful and easy-to-operate code scanners. The simple installation via Plug & Play in particular, as well as the intuitive, browser-based WebLink user interface or the uniform interface concept across all scanners, open up a large number of new application solutions for users. The WebLink user interface pre-installed in each scanner guides users to install and set up the scanners, even without any programming knowledge. The decoding of codes can be started directly after the IP address has been entered. The scanners can be easily integrated into systems thanks to the available interfaces such as digital IOs, RS-232, Ethernet TCP/IP, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP TM . “With all 19 new scanner models, ease of initial start-up and networking are the two biggest advantages for users”, explains wenglor product manager Stefan Winkler. The Right (Hardware) Solution for Every Application From now on, the C5PC series will be available in variants with static focus or auto-focus, with resolutions of 0.3 megapixels, 1.2 megapixels or 5 megapixels and with optics in SD, HD or LR. There are seven different focal distances between 50 and 1,200 mm. With these hardware combinations, 1D and 2D codes can be read and decoded reliably, even if they have been printed, needle punched or lasered directly onto the object (also called DPM, Direct Part Marking). “With the new scanner portfolio, we have a suitable product for every customer requirement”, says Winkler. “From simple static applications with high contrasts, simple and complete codes to dynamic applications with high object speeds and very small, complex and sometimes incomplete or damaged codes, we can now take care of any task – with 25 percent higher reading performance than before”. Quality Standards, Daisy Chain and Tamper Protection Round Off the Portfolio All common standards for determining code quality are met with the scanners: ISO/IEC TR 29158 and EN 15415, EN 15416 and EN 16022. With CodeScan 360, up to eight scanners can be connected via daisy chain, providing a 360° visual field. This means that several scanners can be arranged in a circle around an object and connected together, for example. The code on the object is safely decoded by one of the scanners in the system, regardless of its position. “The advantage for users is not only secure all-round detection, but also that the configuration and results are managed as if it were just a single scanner”, says Winkler. The scanners can also be password-protected for protection against manipulation. Different user roles and levels are available here in WebLink. “The new Multishot Configuration Database is also located in WebLink. Here, users can select different configurations stored in the integrated database, after which the scanner automatically performs quick multiple scans at different positions as well as at different heights and brightness levels. The scanner processes these and evaluates them simultaneously. Users save manual programming effort and thus a lot of time! All in all, the new generation is even stronger, offers more practical features than ever before and is even easier to use”, says Winkler. Unit for the Future: wenglor Restructures Its Development
Hardware expertise in 1D, 2D and 3D meets software expertise One vision, two areas of expertise: In order to bundle synergies even more strongly in the future, sensor and image processing expert wenglor sensoric realigned its internal development centers and business units at the beginning of June. The areas of 2D image processing, 2D/3D sensors, code scanners and software were combined in the wenglorMEL business unit; in return, special photoelectronic and inductive sensors were assigned to the Sensor Technology business unit. The wenglor Group is thus strengthening its two most important core competencies of sensor technology and image processing. It is aiming to reduce the complexity of individual industrial requirements and to offer its customers fully integrated and easy-to-operate all-round systems. “Now what belongs together is growing together,” says wenglor Managing Director Rafael Baur, who is responsible for the development and research centers at wenglor worldwide. “By combining and expanding the hardware and software department under one roof, particularly in the area of Machine Vision, synergies can now be used before and during the development phases of new products. The close integration of both disciplines has long since arrived on the market – the boundaries are fluid!” In concrete terms, this means: The areas of machine vision software, image processing and Smart Cameras, 1D/2D and barcode scanners as well as 2D/3D sensors are now combined under the wenglorMEL business unit, which was previously only responsible for the 2D/3D sensors. “With Christian Vollrath and his team as real image processing and software experts, wenglorMEL Managing Director Torsten Hellerström is creating a true center of excellence for this massively growing business area,” explains Baur. “With this reorganization, our configurable standard software uniVision will make all 2D/3D hardware components smart. For our customers, this means being able to implement more efficient production systems more quickly and cost-effectively.” It is not only the field of image processing that has received a structural update, wenglor’s largest sensor technology business unit is also being further expanded and is benefiting from synergies. High-performance sensors that were previously developed at wenglorMEL are now being produced at the main site in Tettnang and further developed under the leadership of Volker Schnell. As part of this move, development capacities will be increased by almost 20 percent – once again a clear commitment to the region and the company headquarters. “Both units – both sensor technology and image processing – will be strengthened by the new organization and areas of expertise will be bundled together,” summarizes Rafael Baur. “We look forward to moving forward with these two teams and delivering many innovations with two strong centers of excellence.”
