Collision Prevention of Gantry Loaders with Long-Range Laser Distance Sensors

Gantry loaders, i.e. several robots moving on rails, are used to transport large objects such as drive motors. Several of these fully automatic robots move on the same rail track. In order to avoid collisions, the gantry robots are each equipped with two long-range laser distance sensors with wintec on the side in the direction of travel. These determine the distance to the next robot from a distance of up to ten meters. Thanks to two independent switching outputs, buffer zones, in which the robots are delayed or stopped, can be precisely defined.

Long-Range Laser Distance Sensors

Long-range laser distance sensors work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The emitted light can be switched off for these sensors, which eliminates temperature drift.
