Collision Prevention of Gantry Loaders with Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

Gantry loaders, i.e. several robots moving on rails, are used to transport large objects such as drive motors. Several of these fully automatic robots move on the same rail track. In order to avoid collisions, the gantry robots are each equipped with two laser distance sensors Time of Flight with wintec on the side in the direction of travel. These determine the distance to the next robot from a distance of up to ten meters. Thanks to two independent switching outputs, buffer zones, in which the robots are delayed or stopped, can be precisely defined.

Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
