Presence Check of Red-Hot Steel Tubes with Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

In the steel industry, red-hot tubes are transported for cooling on conveyor lines after being manufactured in casting furnaces. In order to control this process, the presence of hot blanks between 700 and 1,000 °C must be reliably detected. For this purpose, a laser distance sensor Time of Flight is installed on the side in the stainless steel 316L housing, which detects the red-hot steel from the front edge from a safe distance – even in different colors, surfaces and step angles. Thanks to the integrated DS technology, the sensor also switches reliably in the event of interfering factors such as ambient light, steam or heat shimmer.

Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
