Stack Measurement of Metal Tubes with Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

In the steel industry, automated gripping, loading and unloading of metal tubes by handling robots requires the exact distance between the tube and the robot to be measured. For this purpose, a laser distance sensor Time of Flight with wintec is installed directly on the robot gripper. Different tube materials such as aluminum, galvanized steel, copper and even black, glossy or corroded surfaces have no influence on the precise measurement result. After measuring the stack, the robot grips the top tube, turns it over and then starts another measurement.

Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
