Collision Protection of Overhead Tracks with Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flightin the Automotive Industry

In the car’s final assembly stage, car bodies must be transported along overhead tracks into inaccessible levels and to processing stations. The electric overhead conveyors required for this purpose are mounted under the hall ceiling so that the floor remains unobstructed. In order to avoid collisions, laser distance sensors Time of Flight with wintec are installed on the overhead track carriers. They measure the distance to the carriers in front and thus control the distance between them. Collision-free operation is possible thanks to the range of ten meters and the ability to detect different surfaces at large angles.

Laser Distance Sensors Time of Flight

Laser distance sensors Time-of-Flight (ToF) work according to the principle of transit time measurement, which means that they cover large working ranges up to 10,000 mm, so that objects can be reliably detected even at great distances. The ToF sensors are extremely robust against interfering ambient light, which ensures reliable operation.
