Film Tear Monitoring in Packaging Machines with Retro-Reflex Sensors for Transparent Objects

In packaging systems with horizontal and vertical packaging machines, a continuous supply of film material must be ensured. If the (semi-)transparent films tear during the packaging process, this leads to faulty packaging. To detect this, the presence of the film between two deflection rollers is checked via special retro-reflex sensors for transparent objects. If the sensor reports a crack in the film, the affected areas of the system switch off immediately. Thanks to the dynamic switching threshold readjustment, the sensors work reliably even in the event of contamination.

Retro-Reflex Sensors for Transparent Objects

In addition to detecting glossy, chrome-plated or reflective surfaces, retro-reflex sensors for transparent objects also detect and count transparent objects such as glass or film using red light. Objects are detected by interrupting the light beam between the sensor and the reflector.
