Current pulses which are triggered at the scanner's receiver by reflected light returned from dark and light symbols on the barcode label (e. g. bars and -> spaces). The value of the current pulse becomes greater as the number of reflected light beams is increased. The individual current pulses are measured and evaluated by the -> Decoder, and are then assigned to corresponding -> Information Characters. Further data processing is generally accomplished with the help of a computer.
