Basic differentiation is made between vertical and horizontal arrangement of the Bars and -> Spaces included in a -> Barcode. In the former case we speak of a -> Picket Fence Arrangement, and in the latter case a -> Ladder Arrangement.
Scanning must always be executed perpendicular to the bars and spaces.
